My top ten reasons for wanting to be thinner:
 
1.  I never saw an ugly outfit in Size 1.
2.  Thin makes a statement to the world of self-pride.
3.  If thin is combined with optimal nutrition, you'll live longer.  Maybe MUCH longer.  Read Roy Walford's "Beyond the 120 Year Diet."
4.  I don't want to look like my mother.
5.  My eyes are adapted to a cultural ideal of thin that I can't change, anymore than I can change the religious beliefs with which I was raised.
6.  It's fun being able to wear lycra-spandex to the gym and looking like you deserve it.
7.  Ever notice that most people wearing bikinis at the beach SHOULDN'T?  I want to wear one of those really elegant one-piece suits with super high legs and a low plunge...and have somebody say, "Now SHE'S the one who SHOULD be wearing a bikini."
8.  My body is my art form.  I am the potter and I am the clay.
9.  Food obsession is a waste of time and life.  I want live a more purposeful life.
10.  Starving the psychological desire to eat feeds the ego.
