I'm using the datetime delta and thinking_sphinx:index:delta rake task for updating the search index. The rake task is run every 2 minutes from cron and all is well =) Thanks guys for all your effort.
It's my understanding that from this article (http://freelancing- gods.com/posts/thinking_sphinx_delta_changes) running the index:delta task pushes changes to the index. This is confirmed when searching for new content after the cron task runs.
