It's more a trade-off / risk handling: adding this took 20 minutes to figure out and ship (on the 4 hours I had at disposal), and doesn't impact the main app (web client), whereas upgrading TS (although I'm pretty sure it would go out well) would have required more testing than that. As well, the feature shipped is not in this app, we just happen to rely on this app to implement the feature somewhere else - so breaking it wouldn't be welcomed here.
