Sorry for being slow to respond on this issue... it's a little odd, and so 
harder to figure out what's the next step.

One thing to try: if you change to the simple deltas (:delta => true in your 
define_index), does delta indexing work then? Also, is this happening in both 
production and development? Only one of the two?
