What's the output of `which indexer` in your command line? If you have an old 
version of Sphinx installed, perhaps that's taking precedence in your user's 
PATH?

A quick work-around is to try setting bin_path to '/usr/local/sphinx/bin' in 
your sphinx.yml file (for the given environment).
