I'm actually a little surprised this question hasn't been asked before. Now 
that I think about it, it's probably best that delta indexing doesn't happen 
during the full index (although the impact if both happen at once is very 
likely negligible). That said, having the two processes aware of each other 
could be  a little tricky.

I guess at this point, I'm not planning on writing any patches to handle these 
situations, but feel free to take a stab at it yourself if you're keen.
