I diagnosed that the problem has to do with the stop words combined with stemming.The stop word - 'Nine' combined with stemming caused the issue.
Is there a way we can ignore stop words on a particular fields alone like first_name, last_name and email ? Here is the related post I see - https://github.com/pat/thinking-sphinx/issues/580 and is this the way to go with in case we want to ignore stop words for name and email attributes alone and not on other attributes and models?
