Recently, after no hardware changes, I had two bsods within 2 weeks. Both were
IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL.  The only other blue screens I've had in the past 2
years were just before the original mb went out. I occassionally have a flicker
on the left side of the screen, that's recent also.

Helpful folks here have suggested that the flicker indicates either the
graphics chip becoming unseated (IDK if that means loose in its socket or must
be resoldered), or the inverter is going out. I have a service contract good
for another 6 months. To be clear I'm running on an ibm service provided
replacement mb which is just over a year old. The machine lives an easy life
- no drops, few airports, and it gets hand carried to various local venues.

Do the BSODs indicate the dead machine soon, and at what point should I call
repair? I'd like to present them with a clear and obvious problem rather than
have them run me though "rebuild your entire install, upgrade to a bios which
is completely irrelavent for your issue and try a different brand of AC
power".   Last time was quite painless - the board failed with a black screen,
no boot, so it was rather obvious.

Laptops definitely are consumable products.  Anyone remember when computers
were believed to "never wear out"?
