The e can go up to 400 Mhz NON speedstep. I don't think you can use the 500
Mhz as the FSB speed is wrong for the built in memory

I have a 600e (233 MHz) and 600X (500 MHz)
Can I take out the 233 MHz and so upgrade the 600e to 500 MHz?
Is that a straight swap of the MMC or what have I to do?
