It is to determine which password is being asked for:
1) The POP - Power-On Password
2) The SPV - Supervisor Password
It may depend on the specific machine, since the BIOSes are very
different. I just looked at my 600X manual, and there is no difference
in the prompt image between the two.
For POP, you turn it on and it prompts you. For SPV, you turn it on and
attempt to get into the BIOS, and it asks you, so you should know by
what you are doing, not what you are seeing.
