I wanted to restore a T41p hard drive back to its original factory state. The Windows installed at that time was compromised and didn't have Rescue and Recovery installed. The hard drive did have the SERVICEV001 partition intact.
I used the wrong version of Rescue and Recovery (version 4). After getting errors attempting to install it, I rebooted from a startup disk - yup, for Version 4. I got error messages, but I also discovered the R&R partition was deleted. All I had was the 700MB ... "preload?" partition. I used Hiren's Boot CD to undelete the R&R partition, but it was now the C: drive and unhidden. I used another program on Hiren's to hide the partition and make another partition the C: drive. Partition Magic grayed out the "Hide Partition" option so I used another program. I installed Windows from a generic OEM CD, and then installed Rescue and Recovery version 3. I rebooted, hit F11, and went through the appropriate prompts to try to restore the hard drive to its original factory state. That's when I got the error message listed in the subject line. Recov32 said "The directory name is invalid". I went back to Windows to try to create recovery media, but the program closed after creating the startup CD. How can correct what's happened? The only other thought I had was to use recovery media from another Thinkpad supported by Rescue and Recovery 3. I have recovery media for the X40 and G40. Thanks for reading. _______________________________________________ Thinkpad mailing list [email protected] http://stderr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/thinkpad
