I have several of the slim Lenovo chargers and find them quite practical
for trips since they are really small and versatile with the 12 V
adapter and tips for different generations of Thinkpads. There are two
things I don't like:
1) as has already been mentioned, the computer-side tip is quite long
and protrudes too far;
2) the 12 V adapter piece - even when not in use - emits an obnoxious
smell, which I suspect stems from the electronics manufacturing.

I'm wondering if Is there some undisclosed virus (computer or human) causing
seemingly uncontrolled pressing of the ? key, or if it is it merely a
coincidental glitch in every one of my 5 email clients.
IBM/Lenovo mobile charger vs? multi-gadget charger:
?
I'm considering a multi-purpose gadget charger such as IGO - you get a
small?transformer which accepts AC or 12vdc and then add whatever output
tip the gadget requires. I believe you can also go directly from the 12v
plug to a low power?device (phone),? and there's a last-ditch piece which
charges small loads?from a couple of AA batts and the output tip.? That
beats having yet another charger for every d-mn gadget, plus it provides
a?*smaller* ac?brick?and an?auto/air adaptor for the thinkpad (though I
will rarely run the?thinkpad off 12v, it's handy for a phone/pda). Right
now it will power a T40. A multi-charger would need only another tip to
run
whatever thinkpad replaces it, while I might need yet another OEM brick
for
the next Thinkpad.
I've seen the IGO gadget charger and accesories fairly cheap on eBay. I'd
imagine there are other multi-chargers as well.
Are these reliable?? Worthwhile clutter savings?? Is there a difference in
power quality, interference given off between that an the IBM / other OEM
bricks?
I have a multi charger from APC which came with a?laptop backpack or?case
a couple of years > ago, it actually has a variable voltage output (user set
not circuitry) and a usb slot on the
brick portion which also came with a?short usb splitter cable allowing two
usb powered devices > to be charged from the brick, it has?powered my R-40
for at least 5 years, and came with
multiple adapters for Air/Car/Home, as well as multiple tips for the
laptop end.? I don't know
if it is still made, but I assumed?that their experience in?battery backup
and power
conditioning made theirs a safe replacement for the standard Thinkpad
brick.
