Change the RTC battery first. Fans rarely if ever fail.
Also, take some compressed air and blow out the vents. That almost always
works if the RTC battery is good.

I have a thinkpad R40 and get the fan error message on boot-up. From what

have read I need to replace the fan. Does anyone have a reccomendation

supplier of the fan? I checked ebay, the going price is around $50
dollars
and almost every listing has the same picture of the fan. Is this just
one
seller or are they all selling the same chinese manufacturered replacement
fan at this point.
