Update: turns out it was Rescue & Recovery generating the problem; it was
sitting
there generating lots of internal error msgs ("failure to send IOCTL_ ...")
that
led to lots of cycles for tvt_reg_monitor and other things (eg antivirus).
Tried
updating to latest version, but this didn't do it, so uninstalled it, and all
is
well.

If anyone recognizes the IOCTL error and has a suggestion, that would be
welcome.

Subject: cycle-sucking tvt-reg-monitor

I have a new (1 month old) R500 running XP (Sp 3, Lenovo preinstalled downgrade
from Vista), where the Thinkvantage Registry Monitor process runs for nearly
1.5
minutes at boot time, but is unproblematic after that.

I tried setting the service to Manual start, and tried Disabling it, but the
system seems to have restored it to Automatic.

Anyone else solve this problem? It's in the pain in the butt category, as it
only
delays starting to work, but it would be nice to have it solved.

thanks in advance
