I've ran Vista Business on several T43p machines and was less than pleased. In my book, Vista calls for a Core Duo, but to each his/hers own.
The most noticeable upgrade (apart from maxing out the RAM) will be a 7200rpm HDD if you can still find one. The biggest difference between 1.86 and 2.26 is the amount of heat...1.86 is considered by many to be a "sweet spot" amongst 533Mhz Dothans. And 2.26 is HOT. Disable Aero, and run Vista in the "classic" mode and you'll be OK. Then again, you may want to wait for Win 7, because RC1 runs much better than Vista on older machines... I agree with Mr. Goretsky that clean install of any OS is the best way to go... Hope this helps.
