OK, thanks.
Are there any disks larger than 80GB with this firmware?

Yes, I have a 100 GB 7200 RPM Hitachi disk with an IBM
sticker, part number, and firmware that works without
issue (or complaint from the BIOS) in a T43p. It is at work
so I don't have the part number handy but I do remember
that it was very expensive. It replaced the 80 GB 5400 RPM
disk that came in the machine. So later versions of the
T43p were available with the drive.

You can find the part number in the HMM for the T43p.
You could order the disk from IBM parts some years
ago - I bet they would be hard to find now.
