If you can run the programs off that CD on some machines you have a good indicator that the CD itself is good, or at least marginal. This means that you ought to be able to take the code from the CD and stuff it onto something like a USB stick and run it from there, assuming that it doesn't have some sort of copy protection scheme. I have a few CD drives that are "weird". One in particular that drove me buggy for a while cannot read data from the middle area of a CD. At the start and end yes but not the middle. Maddening and it cost me time to figure out why. However, you do mention Win2K and WinXP, so that could be your problem? Try putting the code on a USB stick and verify that it works on the XP machine, and then try it on the Win2K. If that doesn't work let us know. I'm not sure I've heard of a program crashing on Win2K before that was made for XP.
