I just replaced the power jack on my son's T42 a couple of weeks ago. The part was only $4 shipped on eBay, but the job was a bear; you need to pretty much completely disassemble the machine to get to the jack. It took me around 4 hours, and I have considerable experience disassembling ThinkPads. A pro could probably do it in around an hour, so if you can get it done for $100 that seems a fair price.

On the plus side, I took the opportunity to replace the CPU thermal pad with some silver-based paste, this seems to have helped a bit with the temperature.

Subject: [Thinkpad] T4x power connector

I've sent the T4x off to be fixed, by http://comprehensivecomputing.net/laptop_power_jack_repair.htm . Will report back to the list whether this was goodness or what.

For the record, shipping via Priority Mail was $15.00 including $300 insurance, which seemed about right.
