Steve, to check that out I'd suggest any of the various little utilities that can read the temp sensors inside and tell you what's up. I currently use TPFanControl more for this than its stated purpose, actually. I've also used SpeedFan and (when they had a free version) Everest. I'm sure folks here have experience with others.
