Question:
Were you prepared for the hard drive change & backed up your data prior to 
sending the unit in?
Did the new drive arrive with the correct OS preloaded?

  I just sent a T400 back for service and included everything they asked for
  on the sheet. It all came back yesterday, including a Hitachi HD replacment
  for a Seagate that was failing.

  I was also surprised that they wanted the power cord and battery.
