Lithium battery storage success

I just checked my spare batt.
Type - OEM 9-cell (extended) for T4x series
Manufactured - 12-06 (call it 2007)
Cycles - 15 (needed less often than expected)
Design cap 77.75wh
Current cap 76.0

It's commonly stated that li-ion batts go bad when not used, but it depends on
how they are not used. I leave it out of the machine unless I anticipate
needed substantial plug-free runtime, keeping an old batt in place. I leave it
partly charged and in the refrigerator - not freezer. So, after over 3 years it
has retained 97% of original capacity.
IBM batteries of that time seem to be of better than average quality, YMMV. In
my case, leaving a junk batt in while on AC and keeping the good one cool
worked superbly.
