My guess is your PC133 512MB won't be recognized at all in your 240, in which case that would be the only harm you'd experience in trying it out.

Hi

I am now the proud owner of a 240X. It is winging its way to me.

I know it can take a low density 256MB stick maxxing it to 320MB.

My question is. I have a couple of low density 512MB sticks of PC133 that I
used in some Apple PowerBooks without any problems.

I kept them as low density 512MB Mac compatible sticks are hard to find and
expensive.

I know the 240X wont take a 512MB stick, but would it take it and use 256MB of
it and if it did would it do either the RAM stick or the laptop any harm?

I know this is irregular, but I have them sitting here ready to go in if it
would work.
