This is a common failure on this model. The exact same break happened on mine, sometime last year. Search the list archives and especially Bill Morrow's Thinkpads online forum; we had a discussion back then.
In short: You buy a replacement hinge, and then go through a series of repair steps from the Hardware Maintenance Manual that for some experienced people on this list takes an hour or less, while for others on this list (me), it took all day. I enjoyed the process and recommend it. My T41 is still going strong a year later. Or you could pay someone to do the repair for you. - TK At 8/2/2010 09:53 AM, Dennis Yurichev wrote: >My left LCD hinge is broken unexpectedly. >Here are photos. >http://oxytron.conus.info/pvt_pix/thinkpad_t41/o_DSC6822.jpg >http://oxytron.conus.info/pvt_pix/thinkpad_t41/o_DSC6823.jpg >Is it possible to weld it somehow? >It is just too expensive to repair such old notebook and order new part... >Any recommendations? _______________________________________________ Thinkpad mailing list [email protected] http://stderr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/thinkpad
