This sounds like a directx problem (because of the overlay). You can run the directx diagnostics to see if there is a problem there.

If your T43 is a model with an ATI graphics card, then you won't find a player for it that has a lower CPU load than Interplay. However, if you don't mind a high CPU load, then just get VLC player, which runs on anything with lowest possible headache, but doesn't optimize for hardware.

Heretofore I've always been able to view
DVDs on this machine but today I got Prisoner
of Zenda from the library and when inserted
it calls up Intervideo DVD player which
fails with error message "Create overlay failed.
Please lower your screen resolution or color
depth and try again."

I can't find any setting that works and the
display options differ from what I used to
see in W2K.  (17 mn colors, 64k colors etc--
no longer appears).

Can someone explain what I am mire in and
the way out?  Perhaps a better player?
