Jeffrey,
If you are using Access Connections to manage your network connections,
it offers settings to change the default printer. It could be that the
location profile is set to use the Brother, and thereby changing it from
the HP every time you reconnect to the network (or reboot).
If you aren't using AC... then I'm not sure why it would be happening.
