Hi, all, Our house has a number of old (T60, T61) and older (T20, T30, A30) Thinkpads, networked and sharing data via an (also old) NetVista server. The server has just died, most likely from power supply failure. I'm planning to order a replacement power supply shortly, but I wonder if I should be replacing the NetVista rather than fixing it. The server satisfies two home network needs: shared data storage, and regular (every five minutes) local weather updates to a web site ( http://www.kcats.org/vws/index.htm , last updated yesterday afternoon, just before the server died).
Does anyone have any suggestions for a more modern way to satisfy these requirements? I don't mind buying a new server, but I'd prefer to NOT use a SERVER version of Windows (the current server is running plain old XP and works just fine). Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
