First checks should be: - is your adapter the correct amperage/voltage for your Thinkpad? - is the outlet you are using able to provide that amount of charge (don't use a bathroom razor outlet) After doublechecking on those things, my next guess would be a problem with the battery itself. But I assume you don't have a second battery to compare it with.
