I recently gave up on the current edition of Acronis backup; it seemed like the product and support were haphazard. Multilple patch releases to get it working, dumbed-down but unintuitive UI, then glaring and obvious mismatches between the documentation and the software. That didn't inspire confidence in something that needs to work the first time it's needed.
I briefly played with newer versions of True Image and made similar observations. When I moved to a new TP (X301) and Windows 7, I noticed that, much to my surprise, good old True Image 11.0 is compatible with Win7 (even the 64-bit flavor of it). I've only used it for image backups so far, but will probably do some cloning when I upgrade the 128 GB SSD that came with my X301 to a 256 GB SSD.
Is there a similar product that can do disk images, clones, standard backups with options for incremental and differential plus can restore with hardware changes?
I heard great things from a colleague about ShadowProtect (http://www.storagecraft.com/shadow_protect_desktop.php). He claimed it was much faster and better than TrueImage. Well, I gave it a try on a couple of TP's and it didn't live up to expectations on my setups. So I uninstalled it and reverted to True Image 11.
