I also have been looking for some program to monitor separately WAN and/or LAN connections, but, barring some utilities that various ISPs are supposed to offer for their users, found nothing really useful.
I use NetPerSec. It allows me to display usage by adapter card. As I have WAN on a different adapter from the LAN, it works for me.
