While I haven't seen the X1 keyboard layout, I will defend chiclet keyboards. My X120e has a chiclet keyboard and the feel of it is nearly as good as that of my T23 and directly comparable to my roommate's T42. The keys still have the inverted dome top so it's easy enough to keep your fingertips centred on the keys. When actually typing, I can't tell it's not full-sized except for the reduced travel that all notebooks have.
I do miss the thinklight, though.
