Install System Update and let it do its thing. There may be one or two
utilities it doesn't install - you can check Lenovo's device driver matrix
for the machine after the system update to see what's left.

The F8 boot menu is a native Windows feature, not a ThinkPad feature. It
should be working in a vanilla Windows install. Not sure why it isn't.
