If your XP installation disk version postdated the X32 (like your Ubuntu 10.4 disk does, in spades), then it should have found working drivers. Even if it predated the X32, the X32's ethernet hardware well predates XP so the XP install should have found it . Is your XP install disk is some highly customized OEM version?

Linux screams on the X3* series. You could install a lightweight Linux (like Lubuntu) and an office suite (like Koffice), install Oracle's Virtual Box, and install XP as a virtual machine. Then you don't need to worry about the drivers. Games won't run well, but they never did on this series anyway.

I can extract but something is not going on right. Out of frustration, I put in a USB with Ubuntu 10.4 on it, booted it up and voila, I have wireless. This is an irony as this was a Ubuntu machine before I started my machinations, OI am getting ready to give to my computer unsavy sister (not much more unsavy than her brother it seems!) and wanted the familiar XP look. Perhaps it is time to stretch her a bit and go with the Ubuntu, it also runs much faster even off the USB.

Can you extract 6hwc05ww.exe from the zip file? If so, can you run 6hwc05ww.exe?

Yea, that's what I have been doing results are abysmal. Taking another tack, any hints on getting the Ethernet running, I could then go on line with the machine and get my updates at Lenovo.

Try opening the zip file in windows explorer. When I highlight the file and hit enter, I get a screen showing two files, 6hwc05ww.exe and 6hwc05ww.txt.

Same (non) response, I get a flash of a DOS screen and then nothing.

Just to clarify, I have downloaded this file on another machine (T43 if it matters) and then copied it to a USB jump drive and then moved the jump drive to the X32.

Try downloading the file again, then copy it to your c: drive, then double click on it. What happens?

Hmmm, there is no such directory even after a "unhide" the system files; under C I have Documents and settings, Program Files, and WINDOWS and under WINDOWS I have driver cache/i386/driver.

Your wireless driver is here:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6hwc05ww.zip

After downloading and extracting it, you might have to go to C>Drivers>Win>Wlanint and run the setup file from there.

Once you get that running, you can update the rest of drivers...

Good luck.

Cheers,

George

Thanks for the responses, the model number of the X32 is 2672 A43.

In device manager I have the Yellow Exclamations for "Other devices"

under which are also listed Ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio

Controller, Network Controller, PCI Modem, Unknown device, and Video

Controller.

When I click on the downloaded driver (On a USB jump drive since I have

no internet connection on the X32) I get a flash of a DOS screen and

then nothing.

I assume the wireless is the Unknown device, any help is appreciated.

Perhaps recovery disks are the way to go??
