Dear Steve, I successfully installed a retail version of Windows 7 32-bit onmy 
wife's T61p. Simply download Thinkvantage system update to external media, 
install Windows 7 on your computer, install System Update, let it install the 
software you need and you should be good to go. I have done the same on a T400, 
T420 and T520 in recent months. I doubt that this will allow you to set up the 
recovery partition but I routinely delete those from my Thinkpads anyway. Bruce
