With the prices of more recent used vintage in the $250-$300 range, I would say, part it out. Have something that can handle more memory, cheaper SATA HD, and even a warranty. I have purchased at ibm.com, from time to time they have 20% off specials (not right now) where you can get a T60 for around $260; they also add in a 1 year warranty at no extra charge, although not at this time.

You get to get the machine, check it out and send it back at their expense if it does not satisfy.

For sure I'll replace it if I'm going to keep using the T41p, I'm
wondering if it's worth doing the latter. I have tried several
solutions and the HD is ot recognized on other machines. At best it
needs a reformat, at worst a new HD. I know they're cheap now but I'm
wondering if a T41p is worth the investent of a new fan AND a new HD.

This forced me to get the X300 up and running for the former T41p
user, and the X220 up and running for the former X300 user (me), so
except for a real parallel port (if I can't get this new USB-parallel
cable to work), are we likely to use the T41p? Or enough to justify
investing in fan+HD?

Thanks!
