Thanks Rob for your quick reply, but unfortunately your suggestions did not
work. For the first one, when I clicked 'Uninstall' in the said web page, it
responeded with the message 'Cannot recognize the msntb protocol'...don't
know what that means. Uninstall in Safe Mode produced the same result as
uninstall in Normal Mode (no effect).

Luckily for me this time I found that the Windows Live Toolbar had a
separate folder of its own under Program Files. So I deleted the whole
folder and then cleaned up the registry with two different cleaners
(CCleaner and Registry Mechanic) which turned up different errors. I let the
cleaners to fix the errors and all is well now.
