Every few weeks my T61 running XP SP3 will hang while trying to
suspend. It will get stuck on the screen that says
"Preparing to Standby".
At that point the only thing I can do is power cycle by holding down
the power button for > 30 seconds.
I've noticed a pattern that after this happens on reboot the
sound driver "Soundmax HD" doesn't load. (There is no audio
and there is a pop-up about the driver not being loaded.)
If I reboot, again, the sound driver will load properly.
I've also noticed that these hangs tend to come in pairs.
After the first hang, I'll probably get another one within
a day or two. Then I'll go two, three, four weeks without
a problem.
I think I'm fairly up to date in terms of windows patches
and driver updates. This has been happening for probably
a year or two. I know I'm grasping at straws, but has
anyone else experienced anything like this?
