Progress here: I was recommended to Netdrive
which is free for non-commercial use and maps
a URL and specified port to a drive letter.
Only problem is it won't handle SSL but the
workaround is to upload over a VPN.

I'm now using XCOPY to archive 2 gb of e-mails
(10 years' worth) offsite; will take all told
about 6 hrs.

I hope in a couple of weeks to write up a
HowTo for a system (like this one) which will
work as a mapped drive, also with FTP and RSYNC.
Wl post to the list when I get everything working.

Benefit of this approach is you can schedule
complete (differential) backups transparently
in the background with RSYNC, but if you need a
file, or need to archive just a single file, you
can do it with copy or even access it in a browser
if you're at someone else's machine.

Tks to all for your help. Stay tuned.
