Yeah, I can sympathize with the guys who want to take this as an opportunity to wipe the system clean, but it's really a completely separate question. The answer to your original question is that the second HDD adapter works *exactly* like adding a second drive to a desktop system, i.e. it's just another internal drive. Any drive cloning software ought to work fine - I've used a bunch of them.

BIG RED WARNING: CAN I MAKE THIS BLINK?

With some versions of Windows, you need to make absolutely sure that you DO NOT BOOT THE SYSTEM AFTER CLONING if you have both drives installed.

I am using XP Pro.

That would be a "copy disk" imaging though?

I plan on making a large file with the whole disk on ie 2oses and recovery partition including MBR.
so i expect that would by pass that problem.

Maybe this is fixed in Windows 7, but it used to be a horrible problem that would trash the registry and all kinds of stuff.

Other than that possible issue, the second HDD adapter is a great ThinkPad accessory and will let you do just what you want.

Ok thanks I hope to use it post imaging to put the swap and temp on to speed windows up
a little like i do on my desktop.
It will be interesting to see how it affects battery life (until the HD fails to cope with errors in firmware)
