My own research turned up these additional issues with the T61/T61p:
- Can't record "what you hear" (a.k.a. "wave out" / "stereo mix") without 
purchasing additional software or hardware.  (Alternative BIOS does not address 
this issue.)  My notes are fuzzy on whether the workarounds even work at all on 
the T61, might only work on the T61p.
- Nvidia models are prone to failure.
- Certain models with particular processors are prone to failure?

As mentioned earlier, the SATA limitation and some others are lifted by the 
alternative firmware.
