Sorry, I meant 2TB. A 250GB drive should be no problem. Drives over
2TB use different partitioning schemes to allow access to the greater
space. Anyway, this isn't your issue.

Is the drive over 2GB in size? Some systems have problems with those

Subject: [Thinkpad] T43 USB problems
Date: Sun, Apr 1, 2012 6:58 am
Model is 2687-D4U,running Windows 7, 32 bit. There was an earlier
problem,
perhaps two years ago, with Southbridge (?), replaced motherboard under
warranty. Now trying to backup system to external hard drive, at first
there is no recognition of the drive at all (the drive has one USB
connection and one AC connection.)
Plug drive into power socket, it doesn't start until you also
connect the
USB cable. Go to Windows explorer, no drive is found. OK, so I then
uninstall the USBs in Device Manager and reboot the machine, all the
drivers are automatically reinstalled. Now, when I plug in the external
hard drive, the OS tells me it has found a new device and is
installing the
software to go along with it, so far, so good. Next it tells me it
is ready
to operate and when I go to the "Safely remove and eject hardware" icon,
the drive is there.
BUT, when I go back to Windows Explorer, no external hard drive is
listed.
Oh, and the drive is found perfectly when I boot the T43 with a
Ubuntu CD.
What gives?
