Guess what? The HD manufactured 2009-06, installed 2009-09, gracefully expired this morning. SMART said it was very ill, and I was able to get any unsaved work onto an external drive. For now, I'm using the 80 GB Samsung MP0804H drive from 2006 that got retired in 2009. I'll probably go for a 320 GB WD Scorpio Blue. With the sale at NCIX, it's the same price as 160 GB.
