I have a Lenovo ThinkPad W500 (4058-CTO) running
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit
   6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 build 6002

I am using ThinkVantage System Update.
It keeps "installing" these two updates:
  Critical Updates(2)
    Product Recovery Update Patch 1.0
Rescue and Recovery Cumulative WER fix package for Windows Vista 1.0

If I look at the installation history, it says that they are
installed. But, when I run ThinkVantage System Update again, it says
that they need to be installed.

Any known ways around this problem?

Also, ThinkVantage System Update says that there is
a BIOS update, but it will not download/install.
