Generally I've had better luck using setuputils for stuff like eggs,
easy_install and pypi. For example, I haven't been able to get anything that's
egg-like (eg, you can stick it on the PYTHONPATH) using bdist.
We can use ez_setup.py to make sure things work even if the user doesn't have
setuptools.
