Hi,

I'm a Computer Science student and I saw the issue 'Sending random data
crashes Thrift service' [1] has been tagged as a possible GSoC project. I
saw there have already been many suggestions on how to fix it, though it
seems not fixed yet. I'd like to know whether there is someone working on
this issue or is it open to be a GSoC project.

I also had a glace at the patches submitted to JIRA on this issue and I'm
not quite sure whether the scale of this idea will be enough for a GSoC
project unless there's a need to re-implement the message reading/processing
parts with a different approach. Does it seem to be the case? Any
clarifications?

I'm not yet familiar with the specifics of Thrift, but I have been involved
in implementing a somewhat similar framework (a basic purpose-built
framework which was more similar to Avro) during my internship period at
Mubasher [2], so I hope I'll be able to catch-up and I would like to start
working on this idea if someone from Thrift community is willing to
mentor/co-mentor this as a GSoC project, as this idea seems to be
interesting.

Thanks.
Rajeev
