For instant releases, I'm just running "make -C compiler/cpp" before "make
dist" and it seems to work. As I recall, this was also necessary because some
of the rules under "test" wanted the compiler around to produce the generated
code. Obviously that's not a problem for you if "make dist" is working, but
I'm not sure why.
