We've built some Debian packages for Thrift that we use internally, they're available for Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10, and for amd64, i386 and lpia. You can find them at our Launchpad PPA: https://launchpad.net/~txamqpteam/+archive they include some not-yet approved patches, namely THRIFT-148, THRIFT-209 and THRIFT-210, but they shouldn't break anything.
