Ruby has a TUnixSocket implementation, and I know it would be possible to do in other languages. However, it's not really that much faster. Is there some other reason you'd like to use unix sockets?
I figured that it would be *slightly* faster but there may well be security implications. I am hoping to use thrift as a RCP client for a service that is not intended to be exposed externally to the machine.
