How about adding a custom action (or using the default "Open Terminal
Here" action), to open a terminal in the current folder? Wouldn't that
do exactly the same (well, ok, it's a different window, but does that
really matter for this purpose)?

That could work, but I was thinking along the same lines as Janis. Mainly it is useful to not run a terminal command, and then close the window, move to another directory, open a window, run another command, close the window, etc. etc. ad nauseum.
