Just a user not a dev, but this sounds really interesting, going to try it out.  I really hope this could be intergrated into thunar.

(Meta)Tracker 0.0.5 (http://www.gnome.org/~jamiemcc/tracker/) is coming
out very soon.  This is like Beagle, with tagging, but it uses much less
resources (and follows freedesktop.org standards
[http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/Tracker]).  I am running the
current version from CVS and it is very fast as the developer claims.

Although it is a Gnome project there are no Gnome dependencies unless
you install the GUI (tracker-search-tool).  I've only used tracker from
the command-line.

I think there is limited support for tracker filesystems (this was a
Google Summer of Code Project: http://code.google.com/p/trackerfs/)
which contain the results of query.

Development is still at an early stage, but do you think this might get
integrated into Thunar at some stage?  It does the tagging discussed a
couple of months ago (RE: Leaftag / GLSCube), and has fast searching.
