Now that you say it, it has bothered me too. It's very limited. But ah well,
Thunar does compensate for it with the rest of its features.

Before I started to use the latest XFCE and Thunar, I was using
Konqueror for file manager, and the only thing I grew to love about it was
the easy permission manipulation. I shouldn't have to pull up Terminal and
*sudo chown -R username:group /some/path* to change the owner/group.
Sorry if I am sounding a little harsh, it just becomes an annoyance
after a while of having to pull up the terminal.
I know that Thunar is still actively being worked on, just thought I'd
make a suggestion for a future release?
